Halifax River Yacht’s Inshore Fishing Tournament
The kids get a day on the water

Bailey McQuarrie gets a helping hand from her dad Mike McQuarrie with the 30-inch redfish which she caught in the first annual Halifax River Yacht Club’s Fishing Tournament for Youngsters, held in early October.

On Saturday, October 3, the Voyagers, the youth activities group of the Halifax River Yacht Club, held its First Annual Inshore Fishing Tournament. Bailey McQuarrie, 7 years old, got the award for catching the Largest Fish, for her 30 inch redfish. Riley O’Neal, 9 years old, won the award for catching the Most Fish, with her personal total of 6 fish for the day. The Youngest Angler of the group was Ronnie Clifton, 3 years old; and the Oldest Angler of the group was Brayden Brown, 11 years old. Carson Duncan, 6 years old, caught the Most Unusual Fish, a puffer fish, while Madison Dvorak, 7 years old, caught the Smallest Fish, a two-inch Mullet. There were several junior anglers who tied for the Least Amount of Fish Caught award, and several runners-up in the Best Fish Story category.

The Voyagers is the Youth Activities Group within the Halifax River Yacht Club. One year ago, the Club formed the group to enhance the membership experience for its younger members. Chairman, Mike McQuarrie says that, “The Voyagers is the future of the Halifax River Yacht Club. We are involving the next generation in our activities, and having a great time doing so.”

The Committee is planning a pumpkin carving party for Halloween and will be participating in the Christmas Boat Parade, sponsored by the Club. For the Boat Parade, the Halifax River Yacht Club is open to the public for viewing and dinner. See the club’s website at www.hryc.com.
