MODELS & SHARKS
By, DOLPHIN_HUNTER, 11/4/08

Decided to go pier fishing today with my friend Ben since I thought there'd be no one at the pier with it being voting day and no school. Look down... WHOA, WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? Bikini model shoot! On the beach! ...so I took a few pictures for you forum boys.

Okay, back to fishing. Tried for Pompano in the morning with sand fleas, nothing. The water was really clear, maybe that's why. Decided to head to the T, trolley rigs everywhere. A few guys got kings and big spanish, and one BIG king was caught. Water was crystal clear, I could see the bottom. Ballyhoo and gogs everywhere. Tried for mangroves and I see a Lesser Amberjack. Finally caught him on cut bait, was about 17". First one! My Dad's friend said they taste good (it did), so I kept it.

My friend then preceded to catch three 12" Mangroves. It was slowww... I caught a few big Blue Runnas on a jig for fun and released them... Some guy caught a bonita, this guy with this huge AVET hooks it up and freelines it out, 150+ yards. Well, it goes off.

About 20 minutes go by, he gets it to the pier and it's a BIG Bull Shark, 300+ pounds. What's that, Mr. Cobia next to it! People were flinging rods everywhere trying to get it. Ben almost had it hit his bucktail. It just wouldn't eat. Shark busted off, Cobia followed. After that I filleted the fish and we went home. Cool day on the pier with some views... just wish there was a little more fish!. >>Forum Thread & More Photos

BIMINI BOUND
By, hooked22, 10/26/08

I got a call from Judd to head over to Bimini for the Wahoo bite. Jimbo Thomas and Rick Thomas from the thomas Flyer ran the boat. The crew consisted of Judd R, Mike S, Brett R, Jeff Pagliarulu, Cheetah, Cole (Jimbos son). We left Bayside around 7am and arrived in Bimini 2 houyrs later, seas were 3-5 to 4-6. The boat is absolutely amazing, great ride. We cleared customs and headed south around 10:00am. It only took about 30 minutes for the first fish, we had 3 by 11:20am. All fish were between 15-30 pounds. We trolled till about 4:00pm and picked up one dollie and a king. That night we hung out, ate some great food that Jimbo cooked and watched the world series. Sunday captain made the call to fish north. The morning bite was great, we had 3 more hoos by lunch time, picked up one more around 2pm. Total for the trip was 7 hoo's, 2 phins, 2 kings. I would like to thank Judd and Mike for letting me come on this trip, it was awesome. I would like to thank Jimbo and Rick for all of their hard work, these guys are amazing out on the water. If you want to catch some quality fish call 305-374-4133 the Thomas Flyer. >>Forum Thread & More Photos

ESCOLAR EVENING
By, BENMGATOR, 10/18/08

We headed out of PE around 5:30 and on the way out we did not see a single bird, weeds or any debris so we did not bother trolling and just headed to our deep drop spot. The current was a slow 2.4kts and we did not manage a hit on our deep drop. We were greeted by a cool sunset at least...

Put out our spread, grabbed a few cold ones and some dinner and waited for a strike. We heard a few boats catch some pups and then around 9:00pm one of our tip rods goes off. It did not fight like a sword and when we saw the fish come up we barely got a look at it and the range of guesses on what it was, spanned from an aj, to a wahoo. We finally got a good look at her and realized it was an Escolar. It sure is ugly but I heard they are good eating, in moderation that is. Anybody know if this is their average size? We guessed around 40 - 50 Lbs or so.

We stayed on the same drift all night. The moonrise was late around 10pm and we were getting ready to pack it in around 1:00am when the bow tip line goes off. I grabbed the rod and Brian helped my brother get into the harness. My brother gave it a good shot but tired out after 30 minutes or so (he doesn't fish much) and Brian took over to finish the fight.

Measured out at 58 Inches but not a pumpkin. Her belly was full of squid and a baby trigger. At 15th street we got searched by an FWC Officer named Adam who was pretty cool. After he checked us out he took our group picture for us. Adam was shared with us some of their recent busts. While we were there we heard about 6 splashes of undersized snapper that they were throwing back in the canal . I am glad they were out there and doing their job.

All told it was a good night and we heard of a few more swords being caught. We got our Sword straight off the port at about the 48.7. Tight lines and I hope you can get out there soon while the weather is on our side. They are chewing pretty good at the moment. >>Forum Thread & More Photos
