Outfish your Husband, Brother and Dad
A national, women-oriented seminar series travels to the St. Pete area to teach fishing technique and attract more women to the world of sportfishing.
The latest Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing! event rolls into Indian Rocks Beach Oct. 12 to 14, providing women anglers with seminars to fine-tune their fishing skills. Hosted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and presented by Mercury Outboards, the program offers a full weekend of educational fishing activities at the Holiday Inn Harbourside.
The event opens with a reception on Oct. 12. On Saturday, fishing techniques will be taught at beginner and advanced levels. Topics include rod and reel basics, inshore, offshore, and bottom and fly fishing. After lunch, women can participate in hands-on fishing stations, such as conservation techniques, spin casting, net casting, landing and releasing, knot tying, gaffing grapefruits, boat handling, trailer backing and reeling against pressure.
An optional third day allows newly informed anglers to take a fishing trip to test newfound skills, and conclude with a fish-filleting class. The cost is $135, which includes meals and T-shirt. Registration for the St. Petersburg seminar should be made at least one week in advance. The fishing trip, with fishing tackle and bait provided, is additional.
