1262-pound Hammerhead caught off Boca Grande
The huge shark could topple the IGFA all-tackle world record.
On the night of May 23, Bucky Dennis, of Port Charlotte, was fishing in Boca Grande Pass, which is world-famous for its tarpon fishing. And of course, well-known for having huge hammerheads lurking.
After the hookup, Dennis who was fishing alone in his boat, was towed out to sea for 5 hours, and 12 miles, before he radioed for some help to secure his catch.
Upon arriving at the dock, a large crowd had already gathered to see the shark brought in. The shark was then loaded on a boat trailer and transported to nearby Mote Marine Laboratory, where scientists will be able to study a rare catch of this size.
Of course, whenever a large shark is killed, there are mixed opinions about it, and the controversy is sure to escalate in the next few weeks. For more on the catch, check out this thread in the FS Forum: http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=492325
