Supermarket chain fined heavily for selling undersize spiny lobsters
Miami--Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing and selling undersized spiny lobsters. U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck fined Winn-Dixie $100,000, to be paid into federal fisheries enforcement fund. Judge Huck also levied another $100,000 fine, to be paid as community service to the Wildlife Foundation of Florida’s spiny lobster research.
Judge Huck placed Winn-Dixie on two year’s probation and ordered the company to forfeit 6,000 pounds of lobster tails worth roughly $160,000.
