College students with interest in fishing should apply.
If you're heading to college next year, and are a member of a national, regional, state or local fishing organization, best take a look at the Shimano "Take Me Fishing" Scholarship Program. The tackle manufacturer is offering a $7,000, $2,000 and $1,000 scholarship, aimed at helping finance a college education for three students demonstrating passion and plans for the fishing biz.
The application process includes providing a letter of referral, and proof of membership from a recreational fishing organization (yes, you can join up now, to qualify). You'll have to answer essay questions showing your excitement level for fishing, how you got involved in the sport, your plans for keeping the fishing industry alive and growing for future anglers and your current college education funding plans. You must be enrolled full-time in pursuit of a four-year undergraduate degree (or at a community college in a program designed to transfer into a four-year program). The scholarship is for one academic year.
Applications are accepted through March 31, 2006, and winners will be announced on May 31. For complete details, visit www.shimano.com/.
