Pass the Shrimp Please
Some Gulf Coast passes are teeming with the tasty crustaceans.
Fort Pierce angler Wes Hempstead got quite a surprise while night fishing near Longboat Key near Sarasota. That surprise was a strong shrimp run during outgoing tides at the local pass.
Hempstead said it was some of the easiest dipnetting for shrimp he’s ever experienced. “It’s no prob to dip about five gallons fairly fast,” the South Florida native said. “And if you get tired of shrimping, there are plenty of bull redfish around to provide rod-bending fun. Most reds are above the slot, but about one fish out of 10 is a keeper.”
