Nothing to Carp About
Fishing event draws anglers from 17 countries.
Think bass and kingfish tournament anglers are dedicated? Participants in the upcoming World Carp—that’s right, carp—Championship will fish for 115 hours straight, sleeping in tents when they can, during the U.S. debut of the event on the St. Lawrence River in New York, June (mark your calendars) 5-10.
“Carp fishing is a six billion dollar industry in the United Kingdom alone and the St. Lawrence River truly has a legendary status overseas,” said Ellen Nesbitt of the St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. “Fishing the St. Lawrence is the dream of many anglers abroad.”
One million dollars will go to the team that breaks the New York carp record of 50 pounds, 4 ounces. First-place prize is $50,000. FS
