Northeast
Fernandina Beach to Flagler Beach
Oct.17-20 NE Allen Mills of www.accharters.net reports limit catches of snapper in the 25-inch range at 8 and 12 mile reefs. No keeper grouper but plenty of throw back snapper to keep those rods bent and also the occasional shark. Bull reds are running strong at the Fernandina jetties but continued bad weather has hampered fishing the tip. Allen also reports bull reds being caught on the inside channel as well as decent whiting and puppy drum. Large jacks in the twenty pound range are also creating havoc near the channel tearing up mullet schools. Nassau River mouth has been producing flounder ,whiting and bluefish on the bridge and around the surrounding area. Simpson Creek has been also producing flounder with the trout bite on the rise. Holly Reynolds reports for the deep sea charter boat (www.Majestyfishing.com ) that they had a very good weekend highlighted with thirty keeper snapper to 12 lb's and 8 Grouper to 15lb's on Saturday. This week looks good weather-wise till Sunday she reports and the fish are biteing with plenty of vermillion, ring tail porgy and very good eating lane snapper to fill in the slack. Rusty at B&M reports very good snapper catches running in the 8 to 10 lb. range on nearshore reefs south such as Ponte Vedra grounds or HG. Grouper also being caught occassionlly on the same areas. Rusty says when the weather is good don't blink go fish because it is good when concerning going offshore. Also Rusty reports on big trout in the 5lb range on float rigs at Whiteshell rocks . It is definitely that time of year and float rig fishing with current over ledges or structure can be lethal on trout. Higher than normal tides and the northeast winds have flooded the grass for tailing redfish and sheephead and should get better through the weekend in our whole Northeast Florida area. Plan your day with at least a two hour window before peak high tide for best results on tailers.I was out personally in the Mill Cove area Tuesday with lots of topwater hits and a few shots at tailing reds in the grass . We are coming off a full moon and I am expecting the inshore fish to really turn on this weekend. Karen Miles of St.Augustine reporting for Devil's Elbow fish camp says that trout are biteing very well under dock lights at night. Black drum running good in the Intracoastal and bridges at Matanzas. Redfish and small mangrove snapper also biting well off the bridges with flounder on the upswing. Karen also added that the weekend should be very good as we get further from that full moon. Also from the St.Augustine area Don Edwards reports from Avid Angler that lots of tarpon at the St. Augustine Inlet with some redfish and large jacks in the mix. The area bridges such as the bridge of Lions also holding tarpon and flounder. Redfish in the slot range biting well on the incomeing tide inside Salt Run. Don also reports that on at least one Boat that fished the annual El Pescado sailfish tournament had 12 sailfish hooked up .He adds that the bigger boats are making their way out even with the heavy seas lately and if you can get out there fishing is good.
